Hot Star Original Fried Chicken

Being Taiwanese, my Asian friends shake their heads in disbelieve when I tell them I've never had Hot Star Fried Chicken before in my life. My excuse is that every times I visit Shilin night market in Taipei, having a large fried chicken isn't really something that crosses my mind. To me the whole point of going to night markets is to try as many different types of "small eats" as you can. Another reason is that Hot Star Fried Chicken seems to always have a long queue and ain't nobody got time for that. But now I can finally put all that behind me, because Hotstar Chicken is now in Sydney!

Hot Star Large Fried Chicken landed near World Square about 3 months ago, and it is still very popular. Their Original Fried Chicken is larger than my face, it has a distinctive crust that is crunchy on the outside yet moist and tender on the inside, I also like how they are less salty than KFC and other western styled Fried Chicken. You can choose from 5 levels of spiciness, Not Spicy, Little Spicy, Medium Spicy, Spicy, and Extra Spicy. I suggest trying the Original Not Spicy version first and then work your way up, as I have had Extra Spicy and it wasn't very kind to my stomach.

Be careful when eating the fried chicken as there could be some small bones and cartilage inside, they do this to show that it's made from 100% chicken breast as opposed to how chicken nuggets are made shown in Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. Luckily the bones are only on one side of the chicken, so it's not too bad. I am also a fan of the super juicy Fried Mushrooms, just be careful when it's hot the juices could burn.

Pros: Open till 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, open till midnight every other day, no preservatives, no additives, not frozen. fried to order, fast and fresh.
Cons: A limited menu compared to ones in Taiwan, takeaway only, not so healthy.
